Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 in your browser: what is THPS3 Web Online?
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 is Neversoft's acclaimed 2001 skateboarding game for the PlayStation 2 that introduced the revert mechanic and revolutionized combo chains. If you are looking for a Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 browser release, THPS3 Web Online is an unofficial web project by creator Slayoner that runs the European PS2 edition directly in modern desktop and mobile browsers without requiring plugins or manual emulator setup.
The project is built on Samir's (snuri00) PS2 Web Recomp framework, translating original PS2 machine code into WebAssembly and leveraging WebGPU for hardware-accelerated 3D graphics. Game assets stream automatically on demand as you launch into parks, so no separate ISO or ROM file upload is requested.
Supported browsers and WebGPU requirements
For the smoothest experience on desktop PC or Mac, open THPS3 Web Online in an up-to-date version of Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Opera or Brave with hardware graphics acceleration and WebGPU enabled. On mobile, Android Chrome and iOS 18.4+ Safari with modern WebAssembly exception support can run the engine with responsive on-screen touch overlays.
Click within the game viewport after loading begins to allow audio to initialize. If you notice stutter or a blank screen on older hardware, ensure your graphics card drivers are current, close heavy background tabs, and give the asset streamer a moment to buffer textures and audio.
Keyboard, gamepad and touch controls setup
The default keyboard configuration maps movement to the arrow keys (left analog stick), D-pad directional input to T, F, G, H, and the right stick to I, J, K, L. Face action buttons correspond to A (Square / flip tricks), W (Triangle / grind), S (Cross / ollie and speed), and D (Circle / grab tricks). Shoulder buttons map to Q (L1), E (R1), 1 (L2), and 3 (R2), with Enter for Start and Backspace for Select. Keys can be customized in the project’s Controls tab.
Standard USB and Bluetooth gamepads—including PlayStation and Xbox controllers—are recognized automatically. Plug in your controller before launching, click inside the active game screen, and tap any button on your controller to activate it. On smartphones and tablets, an on-screen touch overlay provides dual virtual sticks and tactile buttons for portable sessions.
Virtual memory card and save management
Progress is saved into a virtual 8MB PlayStation 2 memory card formatted directly inside your browser’s local storage. To avoid losing custom skaters or career goals when clearing browser cache, open the Saves (Partidas) panel and choose "Protect storage" (Proteger el guardado) to grant persistent storage permission.
The launcher also features an Export option to download your save as a standard .ps2 memory card file—the identical format utilized by standalone emulators like PCSX2. You can also import existing PCSX2 memory cards to resume existing career progress in your browser.
Online rooms and two-player testing status
THPS3 Web Online includes private room functionality where hosts generate a shareable session code and link for friends to connect, accompanied by an in-browser chat panel. The upstream developer notes that while the room infrastructure and control synchronization are functional, two-player Career and competition modes are still being actively refined.
Both participants run their own browser client, so a stable, low-latency connection is recommended when testing room synchronization. Review the host’s online guide dialog before connecting to ensure both players have their gamepads mapped correctly.
